GRANITE

HOW IS GRANITE MINED

Granite is mined directly from the earth, which gives it a unique look that just can’t be replicated. The first step of making granite countertops is to mine the raw granite straight from a quarry. Granite quarries are found throughout the United States and all over the world. The appearance of the yielded material will differ from one location to another. Miners enlist the help of powerful machines and explosives to blast the raw granite out of the quarry. A crane or pulley system will then be used to lift the granite out of the quarry and onto the back of a truck to then be transported to a nearby cutting facility. Many of these chunks of granite will weigh more than 10 tons!
